Oakham Market Cartel The Real Reason For Oakham Market Towns Failing Historic Market

Oakham Market Cartel The Real Reason For Oakham Market Towns Failing Historic Market

Two weeks ago a new cut flower and plant stall arrived at the market,
a very bright and cheerful addition to our dying market.

This week the owners of the flower and plant stall were told very publicly
we already have a stall selling plants if you sell plants you can not
trade at this market anymore.

The owners of the stall claims they have an agreement which permits
them to sell cut flowers and potted plants.

The person collecting the rent said that matter would be passed
to the committee.

We have two vegetable stalls and they survive. Two plant
stalls surely could do the same. Looking at the other stall I could see
some good plants, none were the same as the new traders.

My view is competition is healthy for any trader, perhaps not
a view held by many independents. Restricting what traders can
or not sell can't be healthy for this dying market.

I would like to see choice on the market, choice is plentiful at
Melton's and it is always busy. If you don't offer choice people
won't visit.
