Oakham Town Council Abusing The General Power of Competence (GPC)
Today Oakham Town Council's Clerk told me the council can do something
that the local government act of 1974 does not permit the council to do
Stating the GPC give the council the power to ignore the previous law.
This was repeated at this evenings meeting when the chairman Cllr Alf Dewis
said the same.
They are both wrong and abusing the adopted power.
The link below is local government guidance.
It points out it gives councils the power to do anything an
individual can do provided it is not prohibited
by other legislation.

The General Power of Competence (GPC)
was introduced by the Localism Act 2011 and
took effect in February 2012. In simple terms,
it gives councils the power to do anything an
individual can do provided it is not prohibited
by other legislation.
