Was the Cottesmore Boxing Day Hunt cancelled for the right reasons?  Dawn Bradley

The fox hunting ban has been in place for a long time now and it is understandable if people assume that the issue has gone away; hunting foxes with hounds is illegal and the only time that hunts are seen must therefore be in other traditional meets and sporting pursuits. The problem is that foxes are not safe from hunts that try and exercise what they see as their right to continue with their tradition and many will try and get around the law – or simply blatantly break it out of arrogance. Anti-hunt protesters are keen to tighten up the law and stop hunt activity and this week saw a victory, of sorts. The Cottesmore Boxing Day meet will not go ahead on Cutts Close. The exact reason why is where things become unclear.
