Merry Monk Pub Church Street Oakham Rutland Rear Demolition Photographs & Video

Its amazing how developer contributions help Rutland County Council decide what
they permit within our conservation areas here in Oakham.

Yesterday saw the final stage of demolition of the rear of the Merry Monk Pub
situated in the heart of Oakham's most historic conservation area.

New buildings will be built all highly visible and detrimental to the conservation area.

Residents in the nearby area have complained about damage to Dean's Street Road and
a trail of mess, This has been passed onto RCC.

As I watched and filmed the last stage of the demolition I was pleased to see how the
builders were keen to ensure health and safety was priority!

The Merry Monk is to be converted into a hotel with a smaller bar the garden
area will affect residents as it will be a smaller area close to their homes.

It will be interesting to see if the hotel succeeds those already in the town are
often said to be failing to achieve full occupancy. We will soon see the
building of a new budget hotel on the edge of town.

I am sure RCC will be pleased to see its residential recycling bins used for the commercial
removal of rubble?

Nothing remains of the two internal bars
