Ex Mayor Paul Beech is showing his support for the unlawful conduct of the EX Oakham Mayor Alf Dewis.

I wondered how long it would be before the old guard at OTC mobilised their troops
not long after the resignation of their friend Ex Oakham Mayor Alf Dewis for unlawful conduct.

Just like our Deputy Mayor Cllr Adam Lowe, Ex Mayor Paul Beech is showing
his support for the unlawful conduct of the EX Mayor Alf Dewis.

I've been worried about the tone of some of Martin Brookes's comments on this forum, particularly
as they are coming from someone who purport's to serve the community. The main issue is his assertion
that democracy must be seen to be working at the town council and yet his life's ambition is to degrade those members who don’t agree with his liberal ideals. Surely I don't have to remind everybody that they, the three her refers to, were elected by their community and therefore should be left to serve them until the next election.

That is democracy not some wayward idea that if you don't agree with what ‘HE’ wants, then you must be a bully and resign. When the mayor resigned, which Martin Brookes engineered by the way, surely this is against the principles of democracy.

Cllr Brookes says that democracy is expensive; it is if you come up against him.
The three that are left, “The Old Guard” as he so euphemistically calls them, were elected in a democratic vote and therefore should serve their term if only because they were chosen by the electorate. Isn’t that democracy?

For many years Martin Brookes has a serious problem with authority, and not just here in Rutland. He cannot cope with those that disagree with him and they then become his enemies. Don’t believe everything he tells you, he’s a politition.

That is democracy through fear and if we aren’t careful it could be the ruin of what is undoubtedly the best county to live in, in England.

Gosh! Mr Beech and the Old Guard must seriously think I have some sort of power? being
a parish councillor on a council that does little for our town. If he really believes my
very limited activities on the council are going to ruin the best county to live in England?
I know one thing is true he is upset that his mate Mr Dewis has resigned for unlawful conduct.
I can only begin to imagine how Mr Beech would have reacted if I was the person responsible
for Oakham Town Council receiving a qualified audit due to unlawful conduct.

I think it is also important to point out only one Councillor serving on OTC was elected
via the ballot box, all the other were elected unopposed or co-opted.

All the new Councillors want change and are trying hard to achieve it.

It is a great shame most members of the public are not interested in the council
but appear to be happy to pay for it.
