Neighbourhood Plan Victoria Hall High Street Oakham Rutland

Neighbourhood Plan

Saturday, April 9th

You may have read in the press recently about Oakham’s intention to create a Neighbourhood Plan. This follows Central Government Policy, which is actively encouraging Parish Councils to take responsibility for the development of their environment. With this in mind Oakham Town Council felt that it is important that Oakham’s Neighbourhood Plan should be owned and developed by the Community. A Steering Group, drawn from members of the community with Town Council representation, has been formed to take the Plan forward.

It is expected that the Plan will take 2-3 years of consultation and research to develop, culminating in a local referendum and adoption after which it will become legally binding and have to be considered by Rutland County Council and their planning officers.

Over the next 2 years, residents, community organisations and businesses will be consulted about topics such as the location and types of residential housing, areas for commercial and industrial activities, transport links, roads and associated infrastructure, the high street, schools, healthcare, leisure and community facilities, open spaces and environmental issues.

Listening to what is important to members of the community is the most critical part of developing your Neighbourhood Plan which is why the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group would welcome your support and attendance at our first consultation event. You’ll be able to informally…

· meet members of the Steering Group
· find out what the Plan is all about
· put your views across on issues or areas of interest to you
· Enjoy a complimentary tea or coffee while you have your say

This first event takes place on Saturday April 9th between 10.30-13.00,
