Tory councillor Douglas Laing charged with attempted murder after wife was hit on head with wooden mallet
Douglas Laing, aged 67, appeared at Plymouth Magistrates Court charged with attempted murder.
Laing, of Clifford Street, Chudleigh was arrested following an incident at his home on Sunday October 29.
Prosecutors explained how Laing, a Teignbridge councillor, called police following the incident.
The woman suffered three lacerations to her head after she was allegedly struck about the head with a wooden mallet a number of times.
No pleas were entered in court.
Laing was remanded into custody by magistrates and will next appear via video link at Exeter Crown Court on November 30 for a plea and case management hearing.
