Oakham Town Council Listened To The Public and Took Action.

Oakham Town Council Listened To The Public and Took Action.

At this evenings AGM Oakham Town Council Removed Cllr Michael Haley from
the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group as the councils representative.

Cllr Michael Haley said in a rather dictatorial fashion that he could not be removed due
to the Councils working group constitution which he said once appointed he could remain
until the completion of the plan.

I had been observing the social media comments and listened to the various public comments
made at last nights town meeting.

In particular one ladies comment that all the woman had resigned from the working group because
of Cllr Haley's conduct.

I had also witnessed similar complaints from female members of Oakham Town Council.

So because of all the above I made a proposal that Cllr Michael Haley was removed from the councils Neighbourhood Plan working group. The council accepted and approved this action.

At this point Cllr Haley left the meeting in a dignified manner.

I asked the Clerk to minute the reason for the proposal I had made was based on what the public had said.

The Clerk refused and the New Chairman Cllr Adam Lowe ordered her to minute it.

At the end of the meeting the clerk departed in not such a dignified manner. She threw a bunch of keys on the table the Chairman was sitting at and said lock up and stormed into her office locking the door behind her.
Surely not an appropriate way to treat her employer.

My self and Cllr Anne Skipworth have been appointed to the Neighbourhood Plan Working Group.
One of the first things I would like to do is meet with the chairman to find out what is going on.
I would also like to propose rather like the Rutland County Council Oakham Town Council Task and Finish Group all the meetings of the working group are open to the public to attend then if we require help with tasks or any public input we can glean that help from the interested people present.
After all it is meant to be the residents plan.

I am pleased Oakham Town Took Prompt Action there is no place for (alleged) sexist bullying in local government.

The public attending this evenings meeting congratulated the council for the action they had taken.

I am also hoping that the council will take action against the clerk for gross misconduct ASAP.
