Newly Elected Rutland County councillor Richard Alderman reported to police over 'racist and abusive' Facebook posts

Newly Elected Rutland County councillor Richard Alderman reported to police over 'racist and abusive' Facebook posts

A newly-elected Rutland councillor has been reported to the police for allegedly making racist and abusive posts on Facebook.

Independent Richard Alderman won the Oakham South West seat on Rutland County Council by a single vote on in a by-election July 12.

Today the Tory leader of the council Oliver Hemsley issued a statement saying he had been made aware of Facebook posts on the new councillor’s timeline.

They included racist abuse of Labour shadow home secretary Diane Abbot, including a comment about being up a tree and being fed a banana.

a picture of a noose which was posted as being the UK’s gift to Theresa May. Many times requests are made for the PM to be hung She was described as its "most traitorous PM".
The Mayor of London 'should be shot'

Abuse aimed at Tory female MPs Anna Soubry and Esther McVey was also posted.

After the election I was tipped of about Richard Alderman's
Facebook page. When I first visited I was astonished by the
content. It actually looked similar to fake local pages I had seen
before so I kept quiet.

Yesterday Rutland County Council issued a statement, I am sure they
have carried out a full investigation before releasing the statement.

Statement from Council Leader Oliver Hemsley regarding comments made by recently elected Councillor Richard Alderman on Facebook:

Councillor Hemsley, Leader of Rutland County Council, comments:

“Rutland County Council was made aware of the posts made by newly elected Councillor Alderman on Monday 16th July.
We wholly condemn the use of racist and bigoted behaviour. This is not acceptable in our communities or our Council.
On appointment to his new role as a Councillor, Councillor Alderman was provided with the Council’s Code of Conduct. This details that no Councillor must do anything which may cause the Council to breach any of its obligations under the Equality Act 2010, bully any person, intimidate or attempt to intimidate any persons. It also outlines that Members must not conduct themselves in a manner which could reasonably be regarded as bringing the office or Council into disrepute.
Councillor Alderman signed the Acceptance of Office on Friday 13th July, in which he agreed to abide by the Members’ Code of Conduct.
Having reviewed his comments, I believe that he is in breach of the Members’ Code of Conduct and I have referred this to the Council’s Monitoring Officer. We have also referred the matter to the Police.
We would, like to unreservedly assure the residents of Rutland, that the views expressed by Councillor Alderman are by no means representative of Rutland County Council and we are doing all we can to support the authorities in their investigations.”
Councillor Oxley, Leader of the Council’s Independent Group, comments:
“I am disgusted to read the newly elected Councillor’s comments on Facebook. He is not affiliated with the Council’s Independent Group. I wholly support the action being taken by Councillor Hemsley and Rutland County Council and trust the authorities to deal with this sufficiently.”

Rutland County Councils leader says and something new
and not something I recognise to be very truthful:
We wholly condemn the use of racist and bigoted behaviour.

If what I am reading on Richard Alderman's Facebook Page is true he expresses some very strong opinions about Conservative and Labour Politicians and others

He appears not to be that independent supporting UKIP (which is no surprise is agent at the election was a UKIP member. There is also
a lot of support for EDL and particular  Tommy Robinson following a link to change org I found a petition started by a Richard Alderman seeking to free Tommy Robinson.
