Stamford Apple Day Stamford Arts Centre 27 St. Marys Street Stamford PE9 2DL

Stamford Apple Day

Saturday, October 6th

Well the fruit tree season seems to be about two or three weeks early this year but producing a fine crop. So if there are fruits that you cannot identify please bring them along to our Apple Day on Saturday October 6th.

The Stamford Community Orchard Group will be hosting one of the country’s biggest free apple-based events. We are holding our 15th Apple Day event on October 6th from 10 to 4 pm at Stamford Arts Centre, St Marys Street PE9 2DL with visitors attending from across the country. Experts from the East of England Apples and Orchard Project and SCOG will be present to answer questions and provide advice.
There will be a display of over 300 English apples varieties. Visitors can also see a display of apples of the style grown and sold by the Brown family who had a nursery in Stamford between 1830 and 1985. This year there will also be talks on, for example, the interesting history of the Bramley apple.

You can visit stalls by environmental and art and craft groups as well as others selling local cider, apple juice and apple-themed items such as honey and a range of stalls about food, nature and the good things of life. Adults and especially children can try their hand at apple pressing as well as a range of children's activities. This free annual event is always popular and it attracts over 1,000 people each year.

SCOG always welcomes more people to take part in its courses and social events, so find out more on www.scog.org.uk.
