General election candidate standing in Leicestershire dies aged 69
Anthony Watchorn was standing as an independent in Melton and Rutland
He sadly passed away this morning at Peterborough Hospital this morning.
Despite his death, Mr Watchorn's name will remain on the ballot paper and people could still vote for him. He may already had some ballots cast for him via postal votes.
Under electoral law the death of a nominated candidate from a political party results in the election being postponed.
However as Mr Watchorn was standing as an independent polling day will go ahead as planned on December 12.
Other candidates in Melton and Rutland are:
Alicia Kearns - Conservative
Marietta King - UKIP
James McQuillan - Green
Andy Thomas - Labour
Carol Weaver - Liberal Democrat
