Oakham Town Council to move to Long Row Oakham Rutland 2020
Oakham Town Council have voted to move out of its town centre location within Victoria Hall.
The Town Council discussed its move in secret. Clearly forgetting the public who pay for this almost pointless council might want a say in how their money is spent.
A trustee of Victoria Hall who has been told about the council decision has expressed disappointment.
I personally have always supported a move if the council chamber was increased in size. a requirement pointed out in a 2009 inspection of the council.
I also expected the council to pay less rent or rates and obtain better value for money.
The Town Council had the option to move to premises at Rutland County Council and this I am told was the cheapest offer, One which in my opinion would have given the council a better professional image, the use of reception services and the main council chamber for its meetings.
I am told the council has chosen to move to the most expensive location in Long Row Oakham in a shared space which is less permanent. There will be unknown costs for fitting out the office and meeting space and knowing Oakham Town Council this is likely to be very costly, I wonder if the new offices will include costly provision for the clerks dogs?
