Martin Brookes Oakham South Candidate For Rutland County Council Election, Responding to the recently delivered Liberal Democrat Election Leaflet.

Martin Brookes Oakham South Candidate For Rutland County Council Election, Responding to the recently delivered Liberal Democrat Election Leaflet.

The Liberal Democrat leaflet looks the same as previous leaflets. The front page theme, Which direction will you choose? nothing, new from the Lib Dems. Turning to page one I am asked what path will I choose on 4th May. They state, Yet another Conservative or independent councillor, who will take your vote for granted.

Since I am the only independent candidate running in Oakham South, I will not take anyone's vote for granted.

The Liberal Democrats accuse the Conservative administration of making a mess of planning. There is no doubt that the Lib Dems and Conservatives colluded to scrap the local plan, costing Oakham and Rutland millions of pounds. The result is they have jointly made a mess of planning.

On the same page, Cllr Paul Browne highlights how he ran a solicitors practice in Oakham for over 20 years and how he uses that experience and skills to work tirelessly and fiercely opposing the excessive building our area is being subjected to. Does he not seem hypocritical?

before Cllr Paul Browne's home was built.

Cllr Paul Browne lives in Spinney Hill, one of those excessive developments. Before Cllr Paul Browne moved into his fine new home at Spinney Hill, just like the new neighbouring development Oakham Pastures,  was home to sheep. Throughout Rutland and the surrounding area, Cllr Paul Browne and his family have made money from purchasers of new developments.

My involvement in a planning appeal against the Spinney Hill Development occurred while I was serving the community at the parish council level.

The Lib Dem candidates say they will stand up against further reckless house building. Fight to protect our green spaces and the environment. Cllr Paul Browne, as far as I am aware he has not mentioned a single objection to the new development next to his home at Spinney Hill.

Cllr Paul Browne lost the fight to protect what little of our green spaces remain when the Liberal Democrats colluded with the Conservatives to ditch the local plan.

At this year's budget meeting, the Libs Dems once again colluded with the Conservatives by voting to increase our council tax bills once again by the highest amount permitted. This comes as no surprise given their record of voting to raise tax rates whenever possible.

One Lib Dem member sadly stated, she had to agree with the Conservatives, just in case the council might need the extra money adding they might be able to give voters some good news in a year or two, if they did not spend it, there was a possibility they could refund the unused money.

My promise, I will listen to all residents and I wont take your vote on the 4th May for granted.
