Misconduct hearing notice for former PC Lajeeshan Karunakaran
A former Leicestershire police constable will appear before an accelerated misconduct hearing on Wednesday 3 May 2023.
It is alleged that between 7 August 2022 and 28 October 2022, former PC Lajeeshan Karunakaran breached the standards of professional behaviour, namely discreditable conduct and honesty and integrity.
At around 5.30am on 7 August last year, former PC Karunakaran was travelling as a passenger in his car in Birmingham. The car struck a kerb causing some damage and police attendance was required. At the time, the driver of the car was found to be driving while over the legal alcohol limit and also only held a provisional driving licence.
When officers attended the scene, it is alleged former PC Karunakaran provided false details and also asked the driver and other occupants of the car to provide false information.
Former PC Karunakaran also later denied being in the vehicle at the time of the collision when speaking to another officer and also provided misleading information about his involvement in the incident to his sergeant.
On 30 August 2022, the driver of the vehicle was convicted at Birmingham and Solihull Magistrates Court of drink driving and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.
