Cromwell Road Peterborough, Homes to Be Demolished, Proposed Development Met With Concerns

Cromwell Road Homes to Be Demolished, Proposed Development Met With Concerns

A number of homes in Cromwell Road, Peterborough, are set to be demolished, as the city council moves forward with plans to redevelop the area. The properties, which have been boarded up for several months, have been hit by arson attacks and used by drug dealers.

Peterborough City Council compulsory purchased the homes all at the time were lived in, since the purchase they have been used by drug dealers and the council has had to pay to remove squatters.

The proposed development would see the construction of a new hotel, shops, and apartments. However, some residents have raised concerns about the impact of the development on the area. They worry that it will lead to an increase in traffic and noise, and that it will displace local businesses.

The demolition of the Cromwell Road homes is the latest in a series of developments in the area. In recent years, several other properties have been demolished, creating car parks that have become magnets for drug taking and anti-social behaviour.

The first plans for the Westgate development were proposed in the 1990s, but the project has been delayed by a number of factors, including financial constraints and legal challenges. It is now hoped that the development will finally go ahead in the coming years.

Residents Concerned About Impact of Development

Some residents of Cromwell Road have expressed concerns about the impact of the proposed development on the area. They worry that it will lead to an increase in traffic and noise, and that it will displace local businesses.

"I'm worried about the impact on the community," said one resident. "The development will bring more traffic and noise, and it will make it difficult for people to get around. I'm also worried about the impact on local businesses. Some of them will have to close down, and that will mean fewer jobs for people in the area."

Another resident said: "I'm not against development, but I think it needs to be done in a way that doesn't harm the community. The council needs to listen to the concerns of residents and make sure that the development is in the best interests of everyone."

Council Committed to Redeveloping Area

The city council has said that it is committed to redeveloping the area and that it will work with residents to address their concerns.

"We understand the concerns of residents," said a spokesperson for the council. "We will work with them to ensure that the development is done in a way that minimizes disruption and benefits the community."

The council has also said that it will take steps to address the drug taking and anti-social behaviour that has been taking place in the car parks created from the demolished properties. Somethings they have promised for years.

"We will increase patrols in the area and work with the police to take action against those who are causing problems," said the spokesperson.

The redevelopment of Cromwell Road is a complex issue with no easy answers. The council needs to balance the needs of residents with the need to revitalise the area. It is a challenge that will require careful planning and cooperation from all stakeholders.

Lets hope it does not take many more decades for the council to sort out this area. If I was visiting Peterborough and needed to park a car, this is certainly an area to avoid, unless you don't mind sharing your space with drug users shooting up.
