Rutland Becomes First Dementia-Friendly County
On Friday, October 25th, not far from the picturesque village of Exton, Rutland, a poignant and informative event focused on dementia. The event, held at The Barnsdale, saw renowned broadcaster Angela Rippon share personal stories and insights about her experiences with dementia, having cared for her mother who lived with the condition.
Rippon's candid and heartfelt reflections provided a unique perspective on the challenges and triumphs of living with dementia. Her presence at the event highlighted the importance of open dialogue and understanding surrounding this often-stigmatised condition.
The event also featured a panel of experts who discussed the latest research, treatment options, and support services available for individuals with dementia and their families. The event also celebrated Rutland's achievement as the first Dementia-Friendly County in the UK. The event was organised by MP Alicia Kearns as one last event as part of Rutland's Great Dementia Conversation and aimed to raise awareness, dispel myths, and encourage community engagement in supporting individuals with dementia. By sharing personal stories, expert knowledge, and celebrating Rutland's ground breaking achievement, the event fostered a deeper understanding of dementia and inspired hope for the future.
