The band will not be static as previously mention on Rutland Radio. Rutland Radio is normally a good source for local information. it is rare for them to get it wrong, they also gave out wrong information regarding the Xfactor last weekend.
Mr Paul Beech our fabulous ex Mayor has pointed out my mistake of repeating the information I gleaned from Rutland Radio.
He also points out this year the event is called sounding the retreating and not beating the retreat
"THE GURKHAS DO NOT HAVE DRUMS, ONLY BUGLES, HENCE THE TITLE OF THE CEREMONY IS 'SOUNDING RETREAT"
It is a shame the fly-posted banners don't give out this information.
The chairman of Oakham Town Council has moved the Town Council meeting time the earlier time
of 5.00pm so we can all attend the event. I do hope our meeting end in time for the 18.30 start.
The are a lot of photographs online showing Gurkhas with drums some old and some recent, I wonder when they gave them up?
