A Leicestershire Police Constable, Andrew Gray, Fired for Misconduct and Business Dealings

Leicestershire Police Officer Fired for Misconduct and Business Dealings

A Leicestershire Police Constable, Andrew Gray, has been dismissed from the force following an accelerated misconduct hearing. The hearing concluded that PC Gray engaged in a series of actions that violated professional standards, leading to his termination.

Breaches of Conduct:

The investigation revealed that PC Gray committed several breaches of conduct, including:

  • Dishonesty and Integrity: In May 2023, PC Gray falsely reported being sick to work, using the time to travel abroad for his personal business ventures.
  • Discreditable Conduct: While on reported sick leave in June 2023, PC Gray continued to pursue his business interests, contravening police regulations.
  • Orders and Instructions: PC Gray ignored clear directives regarding acceptable conduct during sick leave.
  • Duties and Responsibilities: He failed to uphold the expected standards of a police officer by prioritising his personal affairs over his professional obligations.

Chief Constable's Statement:

Chief Constable Rob Nixon expressed his disappointment with PC Gray's actions, stating:

"PC Gray's conduct was deliberate and entirely his own doing. The deception involved was planned and intentional."

He emphasised the detrimental impact of such misconduct:

"This type of behaviour undermines discipline and order within the police force, potentially eroding public trust in policing."

While acknowledging PC Gray's prior service, Chief Constable Nixon stressed the necessity of upholding high standards:

"While this misconduct was an isolated incident within a long career, after careful consideration and in accordance with guidelines, I believe dismissal without notice is the appropriate outcome in this case."

Conclusion:

PC Gray's dismissal serves as a stark reminder of the professional and ethical expectations placed upon police officers. His actions demonstrate the potential consequences of prioritising personal interests over duty and the importance of maintaining public trust in law enforcement.
