 Royal Visit to Rutland Announced: Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh to Grace Oakham on May 14th

The Royal Family has announced a visit to Rutland by Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, and Sophie, Countess of Wessex on May 14th, 2024. Oakham, Rutland   

The Duke and Duchess will embark on a day-long tour of Oakham & Rutland taking in some of the county's most iconic landmarks.

A Touch of Tradition at Oakham Castle

The royal visit will begin at Oakham Castle, a historic Norman motte-and-bailey castle. Here, Prince Edward is expected to follow a tradition established by past monarchs, leaving a horseshoe to mark their visit to Rutland. 

A Tribute to the Queen 

A stop at Oakham Library is next on the agenda. This may well include a visit to the newly unveiled statue of the late Queen Elizabeth II, 

Celebrating Prince Philip's Legacy and Rutland's Agriculture

The royal couple will then travel to the Rutland Showground, a significant location for the county. Here, they are likely to pay their respects at the Prince Philip memorial and orchard, established in memory of the Duke of Edinburgh's dedication to the environment and agriculture. The showground itself is a hub for showcasing Rutland's thriving agricultural sector, which the visit will undoubtedly acknowledge.

Perhaps A Relaxing End at Rutland Water

The royal visit will conclude with a visit to the Rutland Belle that offers a scenic boat trip, the Rutland Belle pleasure boat crosses Rutland Water, the county's largest reservoir.
