Cllr Marc Oxley, Critical Question Tory Chairman saving taxpayers money not attending Civic Events
Cllr Oxley raised a question which was critical of the Tory Chairman and The Independent
former Tory Deputy for not attending any Civic events over the past year.
He referred to an old guard member and seemed proud of the fact this person attended and
claimed for every one of them.
He was once the town council chairman and did the same just as Cllr Joyce Lucas did twice
she attempted to increase her attendance last time over 100 events. She even wrote to organisations when not invited.
I say congratulations to both Councillors a large sum of tax payers money has been saved by their decision not to accept invitations from other authorities that come with a price tag. The Chairman
described the associated costs. When Tory Cllr Baines was the Chairman he was chauffeured to
civic events.
I believe it is time all civic events were scrapped and councillors actually got on with the job they
were elected to do.
I noticed the Chairman said the council was not invited to anything from November 2014
- February 2015. That should tell them something. Oakham's Mayor also said she
was not invited to anything over the same period. From what I am told it is due to
some past Mayors and Councillors abusing hospitality, one was even described as a pig
let lose at the trough, that reminds me of the description Waitrose Staff gave to Rutland and Town Councillors who attended a planning consultation and broke all the rules by accepting hospitality
from an applicant, they drank the bar dry.
I trust the Mayor is not going to accept free tickets and "wine!!" she has been offered by
the charity Rutland Sailability.
Councillor Oxley also made a comment about The Tory Leader Roger Begy being seen on
television accepting a Horseshoe from Michael Portillo.
It was pointed out on the television show Michael Portillo was not a queen or a lord or lady,
So I can't not understand why Councillor Marc Oxley objects and suggest the Chairman
should have accepted the horseshoe.
