Oakham Town Council Cancel the band concert planned for Sunday 27th June at Cutts Close Park in Oakham.

Oakham Town Council say:

We are incredibly disappointed to inform you that we have been forced to cancel the band concert planned for Sunday 27th June at Cutts Close Park in Oakham.

The changing goal posts of Covid restrictions have played a part in this decision as has the disruption to our town this week and the response and additional measures required by Rutland County Council.

Our events working group will be meeting soon to discuss how to get our summer event schedule back on track.

We would like to thank the bands and businesses who were to be an integral part of this event and have been so patient in awaiting our decision, we have been desperately trying to find a way to go ahead for the last week.

Oakham Town Council endeavours to respond to as many of your comments and suggestions on Facebook as we can, if you do not receive a direct response please be reassured that all information is passed on to the relevant working groups and committees for full discussion.

Oakham Town Council were asked what the measures Rutland County Council included?  they responded they were not limited to stewards it included table seating for food and drinks, measures to ensure groups were sat socially distanced, measures to ensure masks were worn, extra risk management and management documents.

All of these things are things are understandable and things that could be organised but not at such short notice.

To say this was short notice is absolute rubbish, the government website has been live for over a year now. It is another complete failure by those who administrate at Oakham Town Council.

Yes the government states tables and chairs must be provided if food and drink are provided.

The government has made it clear that people can picnic in their groups so the simple answer for the council was cancel the pub booking if they were not willing to provide tables.

And believe it or not a Town Council is meant to complete risk management documents for all events it holds, it is not something it does, more recently after a lot of asking it has required other users of Cutts Close to complete forms.

I am told it is highly likely that the next three band concerts planned for Cutts Close will be cancelled.

The big question is why do we still have to pay for this pointless Town Council?

Maybe people will go and enjoy the much larger events planned for the Showground and Rutland Water

and the small one being held in the castle grounds.
