Ex-editor returns to old patch as councillor
by Helen Lambourne
A former weekly newspaper editor found himself answering the questions after becoming a councillor for the area he used to cover.
Tor Clark, left, one-time editor of the Rutland and Stamford Mercury, was interviewed by his old paper after taking a seat on Oakham Town Council.
The journalism lecturer is also programme leader of the BA Hons Journalism course at De Montfort University's Leicester Centre for Journalism and hopes his inside knowledge of public affairs will benefit his students.Tor was co-opted to the seat by other town councillors after becoming involved in local affairs since leaving the paper, as a parent governor at his daughters' school.
I met Mr Tor Clerk and sat through his interview, nice confident man.
I have one question, why not sit in the public seats and observe?
A town councillor is meant to serve the public who reside in Oakham. Not once does Mr Tor Clark mention this.
He only goal and aim from reading this article is to glean information for the benefit of his Leicester students.
I am sorry to say this only adds to this already disfunctional council.
