Work Begins on Brooke Road Allotments, Oakham, Rutland, Despite Resident Protests

Work Begins on Brooke Road Allotments Despite Resident Protests

Burmor Construction has begun work on the former Brooke Road allotments site in Oakham, marking the start of a development project that has been met with mixed reactions. While some residents welcome the potential for regeneration and economic benefits, others remain firmly opposed, citing concerns about lost green space, increased traffic, and the character of the town.

The project has been a source of contention since its inception. Brooke Road residents campaigned for years to protect the allotments, arguing that they provided valuable green space, community gardens, and a haven for wildlife. They expressed concerns that the development would lead to increased traffic congestion, strain local infrastructure, and fundamentally alter the character of their neighbourhood.

Despite the residents' efforts, planning permission was ultimately granted, and Burmor Construction has now moved onto the site.

Brooke Road residents have expressed their disappointment that their concerns were not adequately addressed throughout the planning process. They feel their voices were not heard and that the development prioritises profit over the community's well-being. Some residents have vowed to continue monitoring the project and holding the developers accountable for any negative impacts.

With construction now underway, residents and community members are left to grapple with the changing landscape of Brooke Road. While some hope the development will bring positive changes, others remain apprehensive about the potential downsides. Only time will tell what the ultimate impact of the project will be on Oakham and its residents.
