Freedom of Entry to be granted, Oakham Town Council, 504 Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force, RAF Wittering September 2014, Freedom parade 2016 Peterborough

Freedom of Entry to be granted to "old unfit" 504 Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force, RAF Wittering, Cllr Alf Dewis announced a date has been provisionally set for Sunday 21st September 2014.

I have nothing against a large amount  of Oakham tax payers money being spent on a Freedom of Entry if the base or regiment had a connection to the local community. RAF Wittering does not and the full-time members are banned from visiting Oakham due to past conduct in the evenings. So once again im see Cllr Dewis and his chum spending our money for their own personal fun.

The base will be granted the Freedom of Peterborough this will be marked
by  a Freedom parade 2016 at Cathedral Square Peterborough, celebrating
100th anniversary year of RAF Wittering Sat 16 Jul 2016 10:45

The base has stronger connections with Peterborough Cambridgeshire and Stamford Lincs than it does if any? with Oakham Rutland which is miles from the base. I think any honour should have been saved for Kendrew Barracks Soldiers and their families can be seen in Oakham most days of the week.

Most Oakham Town Councillor don't have any respect for the men and woman the will be honouring
this was very evident at the:

Oakham Town Council Meeting Wednesday, December 11, 2013

Freedom of Entry to be granted to "old unfit" 504 Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force, RAF Wittering

This evening our Town Council decided to grant the honour of Freedom of Entry
to a RAF Wittering Regiment.

Not before a farcical debate was held. I may not agree with the public expenditure for
such events, but it is times like this evening I find our town council embarrassing.

Cllr Lockett stated he did not support the proposal, suggesting the council should not grant the
honour upon just any odd regiment, to do so would degrade the current freedoms issued.

Cllr Dewis pointed out the regiment had local connections and was previously attached to
RAF Cottesmore. The regiment also parades through the town on Remembrance Day.

Cllr Guthrie said he supports the spectacle anything that encourages tourism.

Cllr Maureen Dodds demanded an explanation, "what does the freedom mean to Oakham?"
"All these bainits  fixed and drums does this mean they could turn up in town and do what they
like? and what if both groups met in the middle of town?".............................

Cllr Alf Dewis attempted to explain that if granted it would be a grant honour for the regiment.

Oakham Mayor Adam Lowe interrupted and reassured Cllr Dodds by telling her "it's an auxiliary
regiment made up of older personal, who would be unlikely to run through the town let alone fight"

Cllr Stubbs interrupted and told the Mayor  "be careful what you say!"
