Rory Palmer, Labour and co-operative candidate hoping to be elected at this May's Police and Crime Commissioners Election for Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland

Rory Palmer, Labour and co-operative candidate hoping to be elected at this May's Police and Crime Commissioners Election for Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland, was here in Oakham this morning.

Rory says the choice at the forthcoming election is a very clear one, "More Conservative Chaos or safer streets if I am elected as your police and crime commissioner"

Rory's slogan is 'for serious leadership and real change.'

Rory is concerned that if we vote for the Conservative candidate, we will see fewer police on the streets and a continuation of crimes remaining unsolved.

Rory says there has been £42 million pounds cut from local police budgets since 2011, Leicestershire Police is one of lowest funded forces in the country.

The cost to local taxpayers, for Police commissioner's office will rise.

Under the 'serious leadership' of Rory and Labour will deliver more police officers and PCSO's to tackle crime and anti social behaviour.

With new 'serious leadership' Rory says he will get our voices heard on the national stage to acquire the funding, Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland deserves.

Rory says he will reduce the costs of the Police commissioners role to invest in the frontline.

The election will be held on 2nd May 2024,

Details of other candidates standing will be shared soon.

Rory Palmer briefly worked for the Institute for Public Policy Research as a research assistant, before working for nearly five years as a parliamentary assistant to the Labour MPs John Mann and Peter Soulsby.

Having first been elected for the Labour Party as a councillor for the Eyres Monsell ward of Leicester City Council in May 2007, he became one of the council's deputy mayors in May 2011.

Rory worked as senior policy, public affairs and campaigns manager at the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.

He is currently the network lead for the East Midlands Trussell Trust.

Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland, Police and Crime Commissioner, Gaol Street, Oakham, Photographs

Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland, Police and Crime Commissioner, Gaol Street, Oakham

Sir Clive came to Oakham with his wife, his normal trip to Tesco took a little longer than usual
keeping to his word that he will listen to the public he did just that today here in Oakham.

Before taking this photograph I congratulated and he accepted if I meant it.

If I did not mean it I would not have said so. As I told him at the public hustings he would
have got my vote if he had not joined the local Tories a few weeks before standing.

I also met his good wife who said she is not political, I am sure it won't be long before she is
off on a Tory Ladies Charity Curry Night...

Sir Clive was persuaded to buy some number plate security screws from
PCSO Jay Cooper who was selling security gear in Gaol Street.
Sir Clive paid the required £1.00

PCSO  Jay Cooper would like all to know if you missed his stall in
Gaol Street today you can buy the products from Oakham Police
Station from Jon Gower at the front desk.

The lamp timers are good value at £1.00
