NICHOLAS ROBERT VINEY and ANDREW VINEY17 MIDLAND COURT OAKHAM RUTLAND LE15 6RA
Oakham Town Council last night awarded the above a contract for computer services.
Like the contract lucrative £16,000 contract for flowers awarded to a former town clerk, the contract was not put out to tender. bIt is only now being put to tender because of her retirement announcement. I questioned this contract when I was a Councillor and was told by the Clerk no one was interested in tendering!
When will this council realise they are handling public money and it is not theirs to pass onto friends as they please.
Cllr Adam Lowe voted against the purchase from Millennium although he did not speak out (he appears to have been silenced)
He was asked after the meeting why he had voted against? he replied because there had not been a tender. Asked why he did not say this at the meeting? he replied because I am new.
For those who follow my blog I congratulated Mr Lowe for his bravery the first time he spoke out.
He went on to say he has had a private meeting about the matter of tendering, it appears this came to nothing.
A Councillors role is to speak up, Mr Lowe, I am sure is aware of his responsibilities, as a special constable who two standards to follow.
I know you read my blog Mr Lowe, as you told me, Please don't be bullied by the Clerk and others into accepting bad practice. People expect their Councillor to speak up.
Thank you for answering the questions.
Cllr Charles Haworth could learn from you, Councillors vote and must be willing to be accountable to the voters. I can never understand why he never wants the public to know how he votes. When he voted to abstain on another matter his gesture with his pen was hardly noticed. The Mayor saw and had to relay his vote to the Clerk who did not see, pathetic!
