Martin Surl

Election statement:
I am standing as an Independent because I believe party politics has no
place in policing.
I want to make our police more visible and come when we need them.
That means getting the right resource to the right situation or problem first time,
on time, every time and dealing with the matter appropriately and effectively.
That also means stopping the closure of some of our most important local stations.
The right place for city or town police stations is in the heart of the city or town and
I am firmly opposed to moving them further out.
I want older people – whether they live in their own homes or in residential care –
to feel safe and I want a system that works for young people not against them.
Everyone, whatever their age or background, should feel safe day or night and
be able to use our streets and public places without feeling under threat.
I believe in “Restorative Justice”, where criminals are given a chance to mend
their ways. However, if any offender chooses not to heed the warnings to stop
offending, refuses help and support, then the police will move against them firmly
and effectively.
To our serving officers, I recognise the unprecedented changes you face and
I promise to look at the Winsor Review and use my influence to improve your lot.
As an experienced former officer, I am the only candidate in Gloucestershire
with direct experience of policing.  I will not replace the Chief Constable but
if you vote for Martin Surl on Nov 15, I will  provide the resources he or she
needs to reduce crime and make our county the best it can be.

            I’m Independent, I’m Experienced, I’m Local.
