New Beat Officer PC Rebecca Angel Tackles Oakham's Top Concerns

New Beat Officer PC Rebecca Angel Tackles Oakham's Top Concerns

PC Rebecca Angel (Right)

Oakham Police Station welcomed PC Rebecca Angel as the dedicated beat officer for Oakham and Barleythorpe in October 2024.

PC Angel, who joined the force in November 2020, is hitting the ground running, tackling resident concerns head-on.

Following a community consultation, PC Angel and the Oakham and Barleythorpe team have identified some key areas for focus: road safety, anti-social behaviour (ASB), and drugs.

Residents highlighted speeding vehicles as a major issue, particularly on Rutland roads with disregarded 30mph zones.

The team will address this with: Increased high visibility patrols with marked police vehicles. Regular speed gun deployment alongside appropriate enforcement action. Collaboration with the Road Safety Partnership for targeted mobile speed camera deployments Continued updates on enforcement results.

Anti-Social Behaviour has been identified as a community concern. The team will tackle it through: Regular patrols in identified hotspot areas. Engaging with young people involved in ASB, educating them on its impact within the community.

The team acknowledges residents concerns regarding drug sales and use. Their strategy includes: Patrolling identified drug activity hotspots. Gathering intelligence through community engagement. Implementing planned operations targeting vehicles and addresses linked to drugs.

PC Angel and the team have actively participated in several campaigns recently:

#CelebrateSafely: Ensuring safe firework use and responsible Halloween celebrations.

#OPSecptre: Raising awareness about knife crime with educational outreach and hotspot sweeps.

Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week: A successful operation resulted in the seizure of a modified bicycle used for ASB.

The Oakham and Barleythorpe team values community intelligence. Residents can report information through Crimestoppers-UK anonymously.

Joint agency work continues with Rutland County Council's Community Safety Team. This month, a vulnerable homeless person was identified and offered support through the Leicestershire's Outreach team.
