Oakham Day Nursery closes after allegation child was 'handled roughly'

Ofsted and social services were asked to look into a complaint against a staff member

A day nursery has closed down after an allegation was made that a member of staff roughly handled a child.

Ofsted launched an investigation after it received a complaint about an incident at Oakham Day Nursery last month.

The watchdog suspended operations at the nursery after it was told of the allegation.

Then, after it completed its investigation, it issued a notice of intention to cancel the registration of the 60-place nursery on the Oakham Enterprise Park - effectively shutting it down.

However, on Tuesday, nursery bosses voluntarily resigned its registration.

The Mercury has asked for precise details of the allegation but they have not been released however it is understood it related to the ‘rough handling’ of a child.

The police were made aware of the allegation but did not investigate, leaving the matter to Rutland County Council’s social services.
