After the electric main was replaced the high street was returned to normality.
Now Severn Trent Water has started replacing the water main causing motorist
much frustration and delay.
The Diversion is meant to take drivers down station road.
There is not any warning of this until the drivers almost reach the mini roundabout
at the junction of Burley Road, Catmos Street, Mill Street and the High Street.
I am guessing the mini roundabout is to tight for drivers to turn back and head towards
Station Road as they continue to drive along Mill Street and turn into South Street only
to find that New Street is closed.
There is restricted access to the High Street from Gaol Street and Church Street
and none from New Street.
The works are expected to be finished by Christmas.
Some drivers are making dangerous decisions, One lady with a child in her
car decided she needed to visit Boots and ignored the Road Closed signs and
met oncoming traffic.
Other Drivers are taking a much bigger risk in New Street and turning into John
Street and meeting busses and traffic turning from Melton Road into the one way street.
I am all for the town centre improvements due to start next year, but I wonder if the one way
system I am told the council prefers is the answer? Will we see the same chaos?
