Police inquiry desk to move to Rutland County Council offices, Not a popular move

This move is not very popular with the public many of whom do not trust Rutland County Council, I can understand why!

If Briggs, Beggy and King did the correct thing and resigned then maybe some of that trust would return.

It was very clear in at my trial that Rutland County Council's Chief Executive had a very special relationship with the police which went far beyond the normal agency partnership relationship.

Inspector Mistry told the court how Mrs Briggs telephoned him for advice on the day a member of her staff
went home and tragically killed himself.

Uppingham Town Councillor, Ron Simpson, company secretary for Rutland Neighbourhood Watch Association, has highlighted the positives and negatives of a one-stop-shop.

He said: “A purpose-designed one-stop-shop or helpdesk can save money, allowing resources to be diverted into front line policing, but needs well-trained staff with immediate back up.

“A majority of the community now contact the police online, or by telephone, but there is still community expectation of a public face-to-face contact point. Note, however, that Uppingham has no public desk but community contact with beat officers is good as they come and go from the town centre.”

He says making sure people have privacy is essential.
