Rutland County County Council, Transport Hub Plans Scrapped

Rutland County County Council, Transport Hub Plans Scrapped

Rutland County Council had planned to spend a large proportion of a four million pound grant on a transport
hub for buses outside Oakham Station.

Business owners have told Rutland County Council they did not want it and would not be willing to
sell their property to the Council.

Rutland County Council had big hope for Oakham and tourism, a little too big?  A £9 million bus station in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire opened this week to serve around 6 million passengers a year

I am not sure how many millions Rutland County Council were expecting to serve here in Oakham?

The County Council is now planning to create a much smaller more suitable interchange in John Street.

This is likely to include unisex toilets, vending machines and Wi Fi

Some of the transport grant is to be used on a new tourism and work bus, this will run 7 days a week.

For how long is anyone guess, when I moved to Oakham seven years ago the empty open top in some cases
tourist bus spent its day polluting the town and county.
