I managed to catch the two riders in first place on the second lap through Oakham today on my way to the train station, The winner of  the 2022 Cicle Classic Rutland and Melton was  British rider CROCKETT Finn for team Ribble Weldtite Pro Cycling.

The Boundary Commission for England has launched an eight-week consultations into the plans which would see the current Rutland and Melton seat replaced with one called Melton and Syston.

If approved, this would see a new constituency comprised of all Melton borough wards being joined by eight from the Charnwood district, including Syston, Thurmaston, East Goscote, Queniborough and the Wreake villages.

And communities such as Oakham, Uppingham, Langham and Whissendine, which are currently part of the Rutland and Melton constituency, would fall into a new Rutland and Stamford parliamentary seat.

Reacting to the news today, Mrs Kearns said: “Like residents, I will be taking time to study the proposals.

“Rutland, Melton, the Vale and our Harborough villages are uniquely wonderful, and any boundary changes must protect and enhance services, representation and support for our residents.

“I am committed to our communities as your representative in Parliament and continue to work as hard as I can to deliver the very best for all of us.”

A report published today by the boundary commission states: “As our initial proposals consider Rutland separately from Leicestershire, we propose a Melton and Syston constituency in place of the existing Rutland and Melton constituency.

“This includes all District of Melton wards and eight Borough of Charnwood wards extending towards the River Soar, which becomes its western boundary.”

It continues: “We decided the most appropriate crossing between Rutland and Lincolnshire is to include parts of the South Kesteven local authority with Rutland.

“We therefore propose a Rutland and Stamford constituency, comprising the entirety of the Rutland unitary authority and 11 South Kesteven wards.

“This proposed constituency includes the towns of Stamford and Market Deeping to the south-east following the District of South Kesteven local authority boundary, and the wards of Isaac Newton, Castle, and Glen to the north.”

The commission is required to ensure that the number of electors in each constituency is more equal with the proposals resulting in the number of constituencies in England increasing from 533 to 543.

It is undertaking an independent review of all constituency boundaries and will present final recommendations to Parliament by July 2023.

Publication of the initial proposals today is the first time people get to see what the map of new constituencies might look like.

In a message to the electorate, Tim Bowden, secretary to the Boundary Commission for England, said: “We want to hear the views of the public to ensure that we get the new boundaries for Parliamentary constituencies right.

“We consider all feedback received during the consultation process, and it is your local knowledge that helps us to shape constituencies that best reflect your local area.”

Members of the public are encouraged to visit www.bcereviews.org.uk to view maps showing the proposed new boundaries and provide feedback before the consultation closes on August 2.

People can comment on anything from where the proposed new boundary lines are to the names of the constituencies.

There will be a further two rounds of consultation next year before final recommendations are made.

A new Melton and Syston constituency would have an electorate of 74,216.

It would be comprised of East Goscote, Queniborough, Sileby, Syston, The Wolds, Thurmaston, Wreake villages, Asfordby, Bottesford, Croxton Kerrial, Frisby, Gaddesby, Long Clawson, Stathern, Melton Mowbray, Old Dalby, Somerby, Waltham, Wymondham.

Rutland villages which are currently linked to the Melton constituency would join a new Rutland and Stamford constituency.

The Queen has been pleased to approve that the honour of Knights Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George be conferred upon the Rt Hon Alan Duncan MP and the Rt Hon Hugh Robertson MP in recognition of their public service to the country.

Knights Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George
The Order of St Michael and St George is awarded to men and women of high office who render extraordinary or important non-military service in a foreign country or for important or loyal service in relation to foreign and commonwealth affairs.

Recipients can adopt the title “Sir”.

Rt Hon Alan Duncan MP
Alan Duncan was appointed Minister of State for International Development in May 2010. He left government in the recent reshuffle.

He has been the Conservative MP for Rutland and Melton since 1992.

Rt Hon Hugh Robertson MP
Hugh Robertson was appointed as Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in October 2013. He left government in the recent reshuffle.

Previously he was Minister for Sport and the Olympics, and was the Minister with day to day responsibility for the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games.

He is the Conservative MP for Faversham and Mid Kent.

To ask the Secretary of State for International Development what the outcomes were of her Bangladesh Remittance and Payments Partnership; and how the project was implemented in Bangladesh.

The Remittance and Payments Partnership programme, which ended in 2011, had the objective of improving access to and reducing the cost of remittances for the poor in Bangladesh. Key programme outcomes include:

Savings of $66 million by migrants in Saudi Arabia, UK and Singapore by bringing down the cost of formal remittance transfers.

Establishment of the Bangladesh Automated Cheque Handling System that has resulted in a reduction in the time required to deliver a remittance. 95% of individuals surveyed received their remittances in less than 15 days, of which 65% received them in less than seven days compared to 20-25 days.

Increased usage of formal remittance channels, reported to be at 90%.

Emerging Markets Group implemented this programme in partnership with Bangladesh Bank, International Organisation for Migration and Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit.

I have been asked to reply

on behalf of the Department for International Development.

We have had no reports of the Sudanese Government establishing camps in Sudan to temporarily accommodate South Sudanese. A recent report following a comprehensive interagency assessment has recorded 40,000 South Sudanese currently living in temporary settlements in Khartoum. The majority of these people are waiting to return to South Sudan. The UK is supporting the talks in Addis Ababa and urging both governments to reach an agreement on citizenship rights.
