Oakham's War Memorial at All Saints Church was re dedicated today for the future marking its centenary.

I found on Twitter today Oakham's War Memorial at All Saints Church was re dedicated today for the future marking its centenary.

The Lord Lieutenant of Rutland Dr Sarah Furness placed some roses.

Its a shame there appears to have been no publicity about this event, so Oakham residents could have attended.

I have been told there was a mention in the Rutland Mercury last week. The article incorrectly states it is a memorial for Rutland's fallen and cost £900. It cost £1000 and is a memorial to over 100 Oakham's fallen.

One hundred years ago the church yard was overflowing with residents when the war memorial was dedicated.

The correct information about Oakham War Memorial can be found here.

John Lewis The Place to Eat Highcross Leicester, I would not be surprised if this was the next store to close.

John Lewis The Place to Eat Highcross Leicester, I would not be surprised if this was the next store to close. Although the service in the cafe was good, the shop floor service is dreadful plenty of staff standing around chatting to each other rather disinterested in customers and just like M&S they don't seem to have stock and offer to order items on-line  for me. I certainly did not want to take that chance my mum has ordered a basic table and chairs from them and they have taken the money and give an estimated delivery date of one month away and if I wanted to shop on-line I would not have travelled to the store. The item I wanted from the electrical department was available from Amazon for the same price it arrived this 8 hours later and the computer gave me information about the product that the sales assistant could not give me. 🙁

Cllr Andy Burton who was co-opted on to the council in October 2020

 Cllr Andy Burton

Andy Burton who was co-opted on to the council in October 2020.

He has jumped straight in to leading a working group to forge relationships with local businesses as well as being part of the working group to improve the councils social media.

Andy's agricultural knowledge has been a hugely valuable asset, particularly when it comes to discussing planning applications.

Andy says,

"Hi, I’m Andy Burton.

I recently became a member of Oakham Town Council representing Oakham North East.

My wife and I have three grown up daughters and two grand children. I have spent all my working life in Agriculture, I currently work with a Lincolnshire Company manufacturing crop trace elements and Bio-Stimulants.

We moved to Oakham in 2018 from the East Riding of Yorkshire where I served for 20 years as a Councillor on East Riding of Yorkshire Councils Cabinet with responsibilities including Economic investment, Planning, Highways and Transport, Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning.

My passion and interest in local Government led me late in life to study the subject at Huddersfield University where I attained an MA in politics.

I am really proud to have been selected to represent the residents of Oakham and I look forward to getting involved in many of the issues and challenges that face us during these difficult times.

Should you need to get hold of me I can be contacted by email at aburton@oakhamtowncouncil.gov.uk

Thanks

Cllr Andy Burton"
