Showaddywaddy Band Member Mr David Graham co-opted as Councillor for Oakham Town Council Oakham South ward

Showaddywaddy Band Member Mr David Graham co-opted as Councillor for Oakham Town Council Oakham South ward

David Graham is the owner of DG Music and The Piano Cafe South Street Oakham Rutland. He is also a former Oakham School Music Teacher and past member of Showaddywaddy. He is rejoining the band as saxophonist and guitarist for more than 100 gigs the tour starts this month and runs until the band's 50th anniversary in 2023. I wonder how this will affect his commitment to serve Oakham residents and his attendance?

Meet Co-opted Oakham South Oakham Town Councillor Richard Fresia-Farrelly

Meet Co-opted Oakham South Oakham Town Councillor Richard Fresia-Farrelly

Oakham Town Council say,

This week we meet Richard Fresia-Farrelly. Richard was co-opted on to the council in October 2020 and instantly became an active voice in meetings, working groups and committees. Richard is a joy to work alongside, he has a keen interest in the towns future and is empathetic and articulate. He brings a wealth of knowledge in both commercial and charity sectors as well as being a family man and keen tennis player.

Richard says:
"My name is Richard Fresia-Farrelly and I am proud & privileged to be a member of the Oakham Town Council & represent the Southern ward. I have a particular interest in supporting local businesses and enterprises, particularly so in these trying times, and am passionate about helping those from vulnerable communities in the local area.

Alongside my 'day job' holding several roles in the hospitality sector and sitting as a Council member on Oakham Town Council I am also Board Trustee & Chair for The Quetzal Project, a charity supporting victims of childhood sexual abuse in Rutland, Leicestershire & Leicester and a brand Ambassador for The Burnt Chef Project, an organisation raising awareness of mental health issues within the hospitality Industry. As a Fellow of The Institute of Hospitality, I also actively support their ‘Mentor Me’ project, growing talent within the hospitality sector.

I have lived and worked in and around the East Midlands for the majority of my adult life and moved to Oakham over 12 years ago where I now live with my wife and young son enjoying the town and surrounding area as a fantastic place to be as a family."

Cllr Andy Burton who was co-opted on to the council in October 2020

 Cllr Andy Burton

Andy Burton who was co-opted on to the council in October 2020.

He has jumped straight in to leading a working group to forge relationships with local businesses as well as being part of the working group to improve the councils social media.

Andy's agricultural knowledge has been a hugely valuable asset, particularly when it comes to discussing planning applications.

Andy says,

"Hi, I’m Andy Burton.

I recently became a member of Oakham Town Council representing Oakham North East.

My wife and I have three grown up daughters and two grand children. I have spent all my working life in Agriculture, I currently work with a Lincolnshire Company manufacturing crop trace elements and Bio-Stimulants.

We moved to Oakham in 2018 from the East Riding of Yorkshire where I served for 20 years as a Councillor on East Riding of Yorkshire Councils Cabinet with responsibilities including Economic investment, Planning, Highways and Transport, Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning.

My passion and interest in local Government led me late in life to study the subject at Huddersfield University where I attained an MA in politics.

I am really proud to have been selected to represent the residents of Oakham and I look forward to getting involved in many of the issues and challenges that face us during these difficult times.

Should you need to get hold of me I can be contacted by email at aburton@oakhamtowncouncil.gov.uk

Thanks

Cllr Andy Burton"
