Stamford Apple Day
Saturday, October 1st
Apple Identification, Apple Tasting and Produce, Environmental Groups, Honey & Juice, New College Catering, Fun & Games for children. This is the 13th annual Stamford Apple Day by the Stamford Community Orchard Group.
If you'd like to get an apple identified, ideally bring part of the branch with at least 3 leaves and 2 apples attached.
Usually it takes place in the ballroom.
Stamford hosts one of the country's largest Apple Day events, attracting over a thousand visitors on the day. This year is set to be bigger and better than ever! This is because the group is one step closer to finding the Stamford Pippin. The apple has been sent off for further investigation and local experts feel that this could be our biggest find in decades. Also, as always, the East of England Apples and Orchards Project will be bringing along many different varieties English apple. And their experts will be on-hand to identify the apples that people bring along on the day - hoping to find some of the long-lost Stamford apple varieties. SCOG's own gurus will be dispensing invaluable advice to people on how to sort out problems and look after the apple trees in their gardens.
As well as the apple identification there will be a tombola and lots of stalls selling apple related gifts and produce. There will also be fun and games such as pin the maggot on the apple and apple bobbing, for children big & small. A perfect day out for families.
SCOG is a Registered Charity (No.1115719) based in the Lincolnshire market town of Stamford. Our aim is to preserve the old orchards that still exist in the town, to establish new orchards and to rediscover old apple varieties. The Group has already planted and managed a Community Orchard in the town and has an exciting new site on Uffington Road where they are busy planting different varieties of fruit trees.
