A Comforting Lunch at The Hunter's Kitchen, The Wisteria Hotel, Oakham (2025 Review)

Today, Oakham and Rutland News had the pleasure of sampling the vegetarian offerings at The Hunter's Kitchen Restaurant Bar, within The Wisteria Hotel in Oakham. Lunch was enjoyed in the charming, historic section of the restaurant, adding a touch of old-world ambiance to the experience.

From the moment I arrived, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, creating a relaxed and inviting atmosphere.  While awaiting my meal, I savoured freshly baked bread served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar – a delightful start to the dining experience.

My beverage of choice was a refreshing soft drink.
The vegetarian menu proved to be both creative and satisfying.

My starter, a plate of salt-baked celeriac accompanied by smoked beetroot puree and pickled chestnut mushrooms, was a delightful combination of textures and flavours.  Each element was expertly prepared and contributed to a well-balanced and delicious dish.

For the main course, I opted for the wild mushroom and parmesan risotto.  The risotto was perfectly cooked, creamy and rich, with the earthy notes of the mushrooms complementing the salty parmesan beautifully. It was hot until the last forkful.  It was a truly comforting and satisfying dish, ideal for a gloomy Saturday.

The culinary journey concluded with a decadent dessert: a warming chocolate brownie, served with crushed pistachios and vanilla ice cream.  Impressively, this rich and fudgy brownie is also gluten-free.  As an added touch, it was garnished with two chocolate-dipped strawberries, cleverly incorporating "two of your five a day" in a delightful way.

Following the meal, a freshly brewed cup of tea provided the perfect ending to a thoroughly enjoyable lunch. I left feeling satisfied and content, the meal proving to be both filling and comforting on a wet and dreary Saturday.

It's worth noting that the menu at The Wisteria is constantly evolving, reflecting seasonal ingredients and culinary inspiration.  Therefore, it's highly recommended to visit their website for the most up-to-date menus, daily specials, and booking information.

The restaurant also offers a variety of dining spaces, ranging from the more formal dining area to the less formal bar area, catering to different preferences and occasions.  Whether you're looking for a special occasion meal or a casual bite, The Hunter's Kitchen at The Wisteria Hotel appears to offer a delightful dining experience.
