Travellers Leave Church Street Car Park Oakham Rutland
Some domestic rubbish was left behind in bags from Breckland Council
and South Holland District Council.
Travelling Community Take Over Rutland County Council's Church Street Car Park Video
Travellers moved into the car park on Sunday. Oakham has not been visited by any
traveller since before 2007.
Rutland County Council and Leicestershire Police have served a a Section 61 order under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act on the visitors who will have to leave by 2pm Tuesday.
If they don't leave then apparently their homes can be taken.
I wonder if this will prompt Rutland Council to provide a travellers site in the
county.
The legal costs and loss of parking revenue and fines will cost Rutland County
Council.
The loss of parking spaces is also affecting local shoppers.
I wonder why the visitors chose the car park?
Personally I blame a Oakham Town Councillor
who keeps harping on about the award winning toilets the town council run in the
car park and then the daft Town Partnership signs near Rutland Water that list the
smelly loo's as attraction no 6. The town council no longer pay to win loo of the year.
