Oakham Police Station, Up For Sale, Leicestershire Police, Rutland County Council Planning Application APP/2013/0090

Oakham Police Station, Up For Sale, Leicestershire Police, Rutland County Council Planning Application APP/2013/0090

First the flag pole was sold to cut costs, Leicester Police has now announce it is selling Oakham Police
Station. built in 1992 at considerable cost it soon became unusable and proved too costly to bring it
up to the required standards.

Leicestershire Police now want to flog it, it has been long rumoured that Oakham School is set to
snatch up a bargain.

Leicestershire Police have submitted a planning application to build a new smaller station on the doorstep
of the existing building it wants to sell.

If the plans are approved and it looks as if this will be decided by a planning office with delegated powers
just like the blot approved across the road for Oakham School last month.

Leicestershire Police are not revealing how this new build is to be funded I assume proceeds from
the sale will cover that or will it come from the £32,000 they are asking Sainsbury's to pay them if that
application is approved by Rutland County Council.

If  building work goes ahead there will be no public access to a font enquiry desk.

Personally I think this application should be rejected and public money could be saved
if Leicestershire police purchased a new kettle, gave it to Jon Gower, then gave orders to Inspector Mistry and all his Sergeants to move into the old police station recently vacated by the probation service.

Looking at the plans it looks like the extension is connect to the old police station and a timber
clad building in-line with the Oakham School houses to the left is proposed a opening through
the extension will give access to the existing car park.

History:

A Norman castle was built about 1075 and apparently demolished in 1484.  The site stood derelict until the late twentieth century when it was built over and now includes a bus station and a modern housing development.
