Ian Lauder Libdem candidate for Melton Wolds Local Elections 2017

Ian Lauder Libdem candidate for Melton Wolds Local Elections 2017

Ian has lived in Leicestershire since 1984 and takes great interest in local issues.
Professor Lauder was formerly Head of the Medical School at the University of Leicester for 9 years having qualified as a doctor in 1969.
In the past he was a District Councillor and Deputy Group Leader on Gateshead MDC, having been born in County Durham.
Since retiring in 2008 Ian has devoted much time to his political and scientific interests especially climate change and energy conservation. He is also staunchly pro-Europe and was an active campaigner for the original Britain in Europe Campaign.
Ian has set out his policy views below:
Ian's Views
Leicestershire County Council Group Leader, Simon Galton and his team of Councillors, have published an excellent manifesto for Leicestershire which I endorse fully and commend to you. I would wish to highlight 2 areas of particular concern to me.
1. Social Care Provision
Having worked for nearly 40 years in and around the NHS I really appreciate the role of Social Care. In Leicestershire this has been a disaster under the Tories. There is no back-up to the single provider in each area. The potential for a major crisis is huge and it will be vulnerable patients and hospital waiting lists that will suffer.
2.. Highways-
During the course of the last 12 months my wife has twice narrowly avoided a serious accident because of the poor state of the roads. She cannot be alone in what has happened to her.
Firstly, she tried to join the B6047 at a junction where the line of sight was severely limited by the height of the grass verge. She tried to edge her way out but only just managed to avoid a collision with a rapidly moving car. The county Council had forfeited safety over an attempt to save money. This must not be allowed to happen again. The verges must be cut on a regular basis to keep junctions safe.
Secondly, about 6 months after this first problem she severely damaged an offside front tyre in one of the many potholes that bedevil so many of our roads. The cost of repair was bad enough but I could not help thinking how much worse it might have been if she had lost control of the car.
This situation cannot be allowed to continue and the County Council must instigate a proper program of pothole repairs.

Samuel Asplin Libdem candidate for Melton West Local Elections 2017

Samuel Asplin Libdem candidate for Melton West Local Elections 2017

Samuel Asplin has grown up in and around Melton and now works as a teaching assistant at Whissendine Primary School. He has experience of local government as a previous Rutland County Councillor for Whissendine where he was pleased to serve the local residents.
Sam, who lives in the Melton area, has worked tirelessly for the local community and, if elected, would like to ensure residents are kept up to date and become more engaged in local government decisions. He would also like to support his Liberal Democrat colleagues in delivering a better service for the residents of Melton West and Leicestershire as a whole.

Ian Ridley Libdem candidate for Melton East Local Elections 2017

Ian Ridley Libdem candidate for Melton East Local Elections 2017

Dr. Ian Ridley is 45 and works as a data analyst. He was awarded a PhD in Climate Physics by the University of Leicester and has been a parent governor at a primary school for 8 years.
Ian says, "My research experience means that I take a keen interest in preventing Climate Change. I am worried about the damage to our prosperity, environment and continuing peace in Europe that a reckless Hard Brexit could mean.
"I also have practical knowldge of school finances in Leicestershire and the dangers posed to the quality of our children's education by cuts to school funding."
Ian has also campaigned against cuts to tip opening times and Conservative plans to bring in on-street parking meters. He says, "It is bad enough that the Tory-run Melton District Council charges for car parks; parking meters will threaten local businesses in a time of economic uncertainty following the Brexit vote."

Lily Kaufman Libdem candidate for Belvoir Local Election 2017

On the council Lily was a member of a multi cultural group and member of the planning committee.

Lily says, "I have brought up my family in Leicestershire and am proud of the county where I live. I currently work within Human Resources and have done so for 20 years. I am especially passionate about placing young people in work and believe it is important to try and achieve the best education for all our children. I am also passionate about fairness in society and Leicestershire issues.
" Lily KaufmanI am delighted that the Lib Dems will continue to fight for an open and tolerant society. My aim, if elected, is to serve the local community well, listen to concerns and endeavour to rectify any problems."
