North Herts District Council Fun Day Baldock Hertfordshire

Baldock, formerly the location of a film studi...Image via Wikipedia
Tesco Baldock Superstore you need a wide angle lense to get the whole store front,
it is 3 times the width shown interestingling people said it would kill trade in the area
Letchworth now has a Sainsbury, Netto, Lidl and Morrison aswell as a large amount of
independent stores.  I have visited this store it is a bit big.

Ladies stockings were once made here and later computer games, yes we used to make them here in England,  TV games conssole made there including Star Chess all made by local people at Voltmace and sold alongside, Atari and Sega for a time.

Looking for a day out tomorrow then why not visit Baldock in Hertfordshire.

Baldock is  a small market town now bypassed next door to Letchworth Garden City.

Baldock is full of pubs has a huge fantastic Tesco the facade was once used as a palace in a film.

There are less pubs now, original the pubs served workers who would escape Letchworth as the originally founder of the town was a quaker  so no pubs were permitted.

Even today there are very few places to buy a pint in Letchworth.

It  was very controversial when developers built a pub in front of the Friends meeting house!

The pub was then named The Black Squirrel NOW CLOSED it had a reputation bit  like Jinky's  Oakham has now. Customers at Jinky are like angels compared to former Squirrel customers.

 The premises

At the same time North Herts District Council leased its premises from the developer, one of those dodgy deals of the early 80s.

Thats all gone now and the shopping centre expanded and renamed the Garden Square.
