Rutland County Council Notice of Election Published 16 March 2011

It's now your chance to bring about Change

Nomination packs are available for collection from Rutland County Council.

For Parish, Town or County Council

I heard today another good Oakham  Town Councillor is stepping down. No news yet about the very few rotten ones that remain. I hope none of the other good ones step down.

Myself and a friend will be ensuring Conservative Rutland County Councillors Mr Roger Begy and Peter Jones, don't get back in easily, so many people refer to their bullying, including people from their own party Mr and Mrs Wells said they would rather work for Robert Mugabe than Roger Begy.

We will be canvassing this weekend. It is clear the Rutland Conservatives are tearing each other apart, there leader wont go and I feel this will have an adverse effect within the county if it continues.

Recently Mr Roger Begy criticised his own parish council of Greetham, claiming it was useless and needs changing saying four people who live in  the same road, have had too much control for far too long because of public apathy.

Sometimes I think he and his team are happy with this apathy.

His control of Rutland County Council along with Peter Jones, Terry King and the unelected Helen Briggs is not much different from his own parish council.

It is not only time for people to vote, but it is also time for the ordinary people to take control of their Parish, Towns and County Councils.

I am pleased to say I have been nominated in more wards than I can stand for at Oakham Town Council.

Like Rutland County Council, Oakham  Town Council charges to much council tax, I will seek to get this reduced.

Polling day for contested seats will be Thursday 5 May. The national referendum on the alternative voting system for Parliamentary elections will be held on the same day.

This marks the start of the election campaign period. Those wishing to become candidates for the elections must submit nomination papers to the Returning Officer, Catmose, Oakham by Noon on Monday 4 April.

Packs of information, including the nomination forms, can be obtained from the Elections Office at Catmose.

To be nominated as a candidate for a County Council seat, you need ten electors who live in the ward in which you wish to stand to sign a nomination paper. For a parish council seat, you need two electors from the parish (or the relevant ward in the case of Oakham Town Council).

Candidates are urged to submit nomination papers as early as possible in the period from now until 4 April. This is because the details will need to be checked. Any errors must be corrected by the candidate and a valid nomination paper has to be in the hands of the Returning Officer by the deadline to enable the individual to stand in the election. This is the candidate's responsibility, so it advisable not to leave it until the last day or two, particularly as the last day is a Monday.
