Burley Road Bus Shelter Oakham Town Council

New Burley Road Bus Shelter, everything is fine the money spent was not Oakham Town Councils, it was Rutland County Councils. Just a different pot of tax payers money.

The Clerk says the old bus shelter did not cost £2500 to refurbish. some time has passed since the event so I can not recall how this figure was quoted last year, whatever the figure was it was clearly significant. I complained about the waste and the council asked the public where they would like the bus shelter moved to rather than wasting the shelter. It appears Rutland County Council contractors damaged the shelter when it was removed. This is why the new one has been purchased.

The Mayor and Oakham Town Council Chairman has kindly written the following letter.

Dear Mr Brookes,

I response to your enquiry regarding the provision of the  new bus shelter on Burley Road.

The total cost of 4 new shelters (including the one on Burley Road) and the refurbishment of the old one has been approximately £15,000 over two years. (it always interests me how Oakham Town Council often use the word approximately was £15k or £14k? of public money spent)  All of this was paid for by Rutland County Council from funds they have available for the project.

Oakham Town Council has therefore not had to pay anything towards the provision of the new bus shelter or the refurbishment of the old one.

Yours sincerely

Sharon Spencer.

So as you can see it is all fine, its down to Rutland County Council they paid for the refurbishment of the old shelter and thier contractors promptly destroyed it a few weeks later. Well done Rutland County Council.
