Jeakins Weir, Oakkham Action and Rutland County Council, Hearing Closed

Yesterday closing presentations by the three QCs, Satnam Choong QC for Oakham Action, Brian Ash QC for Rutland County Council and Jeremy Cahill QC for Jeakins Weir.

A lot of time was given to discussing two letters one from Marrons Solicitors and Hawksmead.

It was interesting to hear Hawksmead now plan to build more new homes per year than previously stated. Would it be wrong to say Rutland County Council relationship with Hawksmead has improved since the big arguments of the end of last year?

Mr Cahill seemed to be missing part of a important document, but continued his fight. Mr Cahill said some one was a disgrace and it appeared that Rutland County Council was attempting to put humpty together again. Later Mr Cahill said sorry for calling someone a disgrace and explained he had misinterpreted something.

Although Mr Cahill, said he wanted the inspector to assume Rutland County Council had adopted its Core Strategy it appeared from the summing up he was not happy with it and appeared to suggest there could be a legal challenge another day.

The Core Strategy was adopted by Councillors last night and the letters were mentioned by a Councillor who said if they were discussed they may have to remove the public and press from the chamber. I wonder if any of the Councillor knew these letter were discussed and are now part of a public enquiry?

The three parties all summarised their various arguments against and for the development on the Uppingham Road and the Inspector took due note of all information.

The Inspector, Ms M O’Rourke thank everyone for their hospitality, I would say lack of it at Rutland County Council. At lunch time she was looking for a coffee machine and was told by the receptionist their was no coffee? There is a machine in a room attached the chamber, I could not tell her because I had spoke at the hearing and the rules say you can't speak to Inspector.

In Closing the hearing the Inspector, Ms M O’Rourke indicated that her decision would be published mid to late August on the Inspectorate Website
