Gary Halliday Funeral All Saints Church Oakham
Today was a sad day, I attended Gary's funeral. I never knew where Gary lived, although I had known him for a number of years, either at Oakham library, Tesco or just about town. He was always friendly, his family say he was troubled, but recently I think he was trying hard to deal with his issues. He was being supported by others. Debbie Marsh who runs the drop in centre gave a truthful and wonderful tribute at the church.
Gary also came to me and others for help, a short while ago when he became homeless. I did the best I could for him as a town councillor, this resulted in me receiving a pretty pointless document from Rutland County Council. Gary was born in Oakham and found it very hard when he was advised he should move to Leicester. He said to me I was born in Oakham, Oakham is my home why should I move? Fortunately he only spent one night on the street.
Gary will be missed by many people.
A large number of people turned up at the Church to pay there respects.
His fathers funeral was held in the same church, February this year.
Some local people will remember Gary the post man and later he worked at B&Q at Wigston.
