Oakham Town Council Free Christmas Shopping Bus

One of the last items shared with me as a town councillor was a request for the council to pay for free buses for the late night shopping. Despite the low usage of past years and most who do use the service already get a free bus pass. It looks likely from the replies seen, Oakham Town Council will be sending some more of your money back to Rutland County Council it will be interesting to see which budget heading is used.

councillors are asked by the clerk to respond yes or no  they all appear to agree not knowing the cost, would be funny if the council gets a bill for £10,000 in the new year.

Any dodgy tarmac or roofing folk out there the town council is easier than any old person. It must be time to re-roof the bandstand!
.
The email from Cllr Woodcock sums up the carefree attitude of the council towards your money.

HO! HO! its Christmas lets spend, it does not matter if the tax payer gets nothing in return. At least Cllr Woodcock appears to expresses a little concern for the tax payer.
It is not the role of the town council to put extra money into commercial tills.

Dear Richard
I realise we always have to consider cost and value for money. However this is a community event and even if - just a few make it to town that would not have been able to otherwise -then it gets a thumbs up from me.
After all those that attend ,by whatever means, will probably spend money which can only be good for the town traders. Also it is nice to give something back to residents in difficult times.  Oh and be a bit festive!!!
Regards
Jayne

This has always been done in the past and paid for by the Town Council. Yes or no?
