Cllr Maureen Dodds,
Chairman of Oakham in Bloom
Last night Oakham Town agreed to continue to support Oakham in Bloom and provide
the same amount of floral displays around the town for next summer.
The cost for this has spiralled out of control, I am told it is nothing to do with the fact the contracting company is owned by a former assistant town Clerk.
Cllr Adam Lowe pointed how lucrative this contract is. For example the contract to water the baskets was awarded to a company outside Rutland, because it was cheapest and they then subcontracted the job to a Rutland Company clearly not a charitable move on their part. Its clear anyone who does tender over the next month has knowledge of the high earner this has become.
I sensed the council is aware of this as it was said at one point it was the cost next year for plants and watering will be be at least a third less than this years bill
