Remembrance Sunday morning Oakham Rutland
I arrived at All Saint's Church Oakham, around 10.45am and other members of the public had arrived to pay their respects, rather more than previous years.
The town does not have a civic service at the war memorial in the morning, this is traditionally held after a 2.30pm church service.
I have never been able to find the true reason for this. Some say its because our civic leaders attend bases around the area have lunch and call in at Oakham on their route home.
I like the small gathering in the morning, minus the theatre of civic duty. The church bells tolled at 11.00 and everyone was silent for over five minutes.
