NOTICE OF VACANCY Oakham Town Council
Following the resignation of Chris Hopkin as a member for Oakham North East Ward the statutory notices of the vacancy have been displayed today (17th February 2012) in the Council's notice boards.
At least 10 electors from the ward have until the 8th March 2012 to notify the Returning Officer at Rutland County Council, in writing, that they wish to call for an election for the vacancy.
If no such request is submitted then the Town Council will be given the power to fill the vacancy by co-option.
Many people can't be bothered to go out and get the required signatures and this leads to the Town Council Co-opting if it feels the need.
The are currently three vacant seat.
one: could be co-opted.
Two: this one that requires a call for election, if you are thinking about standing I can assure you it would be much easier to gain the your seat this way. Unless you prefer a few nosey local councillors asking some pointless and sometime personal question to co-opt.
Three: My old seat currently not available due to the slow legal process.
So for my ward there is currently only one councillor who if he does not like you is likely to us your personally details to send you magazine subscriptions, endless on-line subscriptions and many other treats.
