High Sheriff of Rutland Bart Hellyer has resurrected his ancient right
to put people in the stocks as part of the fun at Oakham's Diamond
Jubilee celebrations in Cutts Close on Tuesday June 5.
High
Sheriff Bart has appointed members of Oakham Town Council as his
officers and will be holding court at a specially erected fun stocks. If
found guilty, the public will be given the opportunity of throwing wet
sponges at the malefactors!
Money raised from the sale of wet
sponges will go to The Lodge Trust at Market Overton, a charity for
adults with learning disabilities.
Members of the public can
nominate local people they would most like to throw wet sponges at and
Bart will do his best to catch them and bring them to justice on the
day.
People wishing to nominate someone can post below or email the Sheriff's Posse direct at charleshaworth@live.co.uk.
